Windows 10 waiting for download

This issue might occur when some of the Windows update components got corrupted.

The compact tool will be installed on your PC, and after verifying that there are no updates available for the tool itself, it will then look for the newest version of Windows 10 to install. Mar 13, 2018 - If a user affected by this issue opens up the Start Menu, and does into Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, they see that there are a few updates available for their computer, with each of them marked as “Waiting to download” and no way whatsoever to manually download the available Windows Updates. Cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1511 (KB3116908) gets stuck 'waiting for download' Troubleshooter found no errors. Please advise.

I suggest you to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and check if it resolves the issue. Follow the below steps.

  1. Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel.

  2. Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

  3. Click on System and security under Troubleshoot computer problems.

  4. Click on Windows Update under Windows.

  5. Click on Advanced on the Windows update dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).

  6. Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Windows Update troubleshooter.

I would suggest you to manually reset the Windows update components and check if it helps.

Method 1: Reset Windows update components.

Resetting Windows Update Components will fix corrupt Windows Update Components and help you to install the Windows Updates. Please follow the below steps to reset the Windows Updates Components manually:

  1. Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.
  2. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.
    • net stop wuauserv
    • net stop cryptSvc
    • net stop bits
    • net stop msiserver
  3. Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.
    • ren C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    • ren C:WindowsSystem32catroot2 Catroot2.old
  4. Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Type the following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.
    • net start wuauserv
    • net start cryptSvc
    • net start bits
    • net start msiserver

5. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it.
